Jacksonville may have to wait until rookie Dede Westbrook returns from the injured reserve list. But in the meanwhile, how about splitting Jalen Ramsey out wide as a receiver? Deion Sanders did it. In fact, he caught a 47 yard pass in Super Bowl XXX. Give Ramsey a special package in the passing attack, either as a target or decoy. It’s worth a try to ignite the passing attack that still misses Robinson being out there.

Players in every sport who sustain a major injury often say they go through a mourning period when they realize how many games they will miss and much time their rehabilitation will require.

Jaguars receiver Allen Robinson said he is not one of those players. He sustained a torn ACL while catching a 17-yard pass three plays into the Week 1 win at Houston.

“It’s an injury; I know I’ll bounce back,” Robinson said Monday night before his charity event at the Epping-Forest Yacht and Country Club. “I’m a football player. I love the game. I don’t expect myself to have any setbacks.”

Robinson’s charity, The Within Reach Foundation, was raising money for events throughout the year to help local children with school supplies/clothes and Christmas presents. Robinson expected around 130 people to attend the dinner and participate in a silent auction.

Robinson had surgery Sept. 13 and remains on crutches. The injury happened as he landed on his feet near the Texans’ sideline.

“Something didn’t feel right, but I didn’t know exactly what was wrong,” Robinson said. “I didn’t think at the time that it was [the ACL]. I had no idea. I was actually assuming that injury would feel a lot worse.”

Without Robinson, the Jaguars’ passing game is significantly worse – they enter Sunday’s game at Pittsburgh ranked 30th in passing yards per game (179.0).

Robinson said he still spends time around the Jaguars and his fellow receivers.

“I’m trying to do as much as possible,” Robinson said. “Those guys are pros and know what they’re doing so I don’t try to get in their way too much as far as telling them too many things.”

As soon as Robinson was diagnosed with the injury, speculation shifted to his future. A free agent after the season, his representatives and the Jaguars had pre-training camp contract talks and it is believed the team was comfortable using the franchise tag on Robinson next March if an agreement could not be reached. The injury may change the Jaguars’ strategy, though.

“It’s one of those things, you kind of don’t know what’s going to happen,” Robinson said. “It’s out there, but I’m not too concerned with it. I know I have the injury but as far as me, I know I’ve put a lot of good tape out there and come to work each day.”

Asked if staying with the Jaguars remains his preference, Robinson said: “For sure. This is my team.”

Injury report

Not practicing Wednesday were receiver Marqise Lee (ribs), strong safety Jarrod Wilson (shoulder) and center Brandon Linder (illness).

Also listed on the injury report but participated in all or part of practice were tailback Leonard Fournette (ankle), quarterback Blake Bortles (right wrist), receiver Jaelen Strong (hamstring), cornerback Jalen Ramsey (ankle), fullback Tommy Bohanon (knee), right guard A.J. Cann (hand), defensive tackle Malik Jackson (groin) and linebackers Donald Payne (hamstring) and Lerentee McCray (knee).

Strong did practice work for the first time since Sept. 20 and McCray was on the field for the first time since the Sept. 17 loss to Tennessee.

The Jaguars practiced outside but wore light shoulder pads (“spiders”) instead of going full pads.

Of playing three straight games away from Jacksonville, coach Doug Marrone said of handling the players this week: “We will do a couple things practice-wise. That comes into play, especially with the overtime. You get those extra plays in the overtime. For me, I have to look at how to manage the team. We will do a couple things that are a little bit different to help our team.”

Etc.

Robinson on his alma mater, Penn State, wearing numbers on its helmets last week; “Man, not only did they have the numbers, but the white cleats. Penn State having white cleats? I don’t know what to say. I’m speechless.” … Marrone on Pittsburgh linebacker Ryan Shazier, who has a team-high 37 tackles: “Probably playing as well as any linebacker in the league right now. I think he’s outstanding.”
