Andy Dalton has the best team-friendly contract of any NFL quarterback

The Cincinnati Bengals continue to have one of the NFL’s most stable quarterback situations.

That’s in large part because of Andy Dalton, who has grown into a franchise quarterback during the course of his seven-year career. He’s shown he can play at a Pro Bowl-level and lead the Bengals to the playoffs, even if he has yet to win a postseason game.

Making Dalton’s deal even more special is he’s one of the best value quarterbacks in the NFL in terms of veterans who have signed deals following their rookie contracts. Dalton’s contract pays him an average of just $16 million per year, the 16th-highest of any quarterback, per Spotrac.

That’s after Jimmy Garoppolo just signed a massive deal with the 49ers, paying him an annual salary of $27.5 million. That number isn’t far from being twice as much as what Dalton makes, despite the fact that Dalton has 102 more regular-season starts than Garoppolo.

And that’s before impending free agents Kirk Cousins and Drew Brees sign new deals, which are guaranteed to be bigger than Dalton, who will likely enter the 2018 season with the 19th-highest average among quarterbacks.

It will also be one of, if not the lowest average among starting quarterbacks on non-rookie deals. That kind of team-friendly deal only strengthens the fact that Cincinnati has one of the best quarterback situations in the NFL.

Additionally, should the Bengals cut Dalton this offseason, they would be on the hook for only $2.4 million. But if they cut Dalton in 2019, there is no dead cap hit.

That’s right. The Bengals could cut Dalton next year and not owe him a penny. If the Bengals keep Dalton around as expected, he’ll continue getting paid between $16.3-$17.7 million per year for the 2018-2020 seasons before becoming a free agent in 2021.

It’s likely that Dalton will sign an extension sometime within the next two seasons before being allowed to become a free agent. Still, it’s great to see the Bengals have so much flexibility with his deal while also not being hamstrung by it.

Now, it’s time for the Bengals to start taking advantage of it and re-signing their best players while acquiring some quality outside free agents as well. Despite having Dalton signed to such a good deal, the Bengals have let Marvin Jones, Mohamed Sanu, Kevin Zeitler and Andrew Whitworth leave in free agency over the last two offseasons, so they’ve really done a poor job at taking advantage of Dalton’s sweetheart deal.

Let’s hope that changes in a big way this year.

Andy Dalton would ‘be a king’ if the Buffalo Bills traded for QB, says Preston Brown

Preston Brown is set to hit free agency in March, but that is not stopping the linebacker from playing Buffalo Bills general manager.

Brown recently spoke with Jeremy Rauch of Cincinnati’s FOX 19 about a wide variety of subjects. Perhaps the most interesting comment made by Brown, a Cincinnati native, was that the Bengals should trade Andy Dalton to the Bills if they’re not happy with the quarterback.

Dalton played a big role in ending the Bills’ 17-year playoff drought. The Bengals quarterback threw a late-game touchdown pass to Tyler Boyd in the regular season finale against the Baltimore Ravens. Shortly after Dalton ended the Ravens’ season, Bills fans donated generously to the Andy and Jordan Dalton Foundation.

Buffalo is expected to move on from Tyrod Taylor this offseason and the team could find his replacement in the draft, free agency or via trade. The Bills will keep all of their options open, but is Dalton a realistic possibility?

Anything can happen in the NFL, but there is no indication that the Bengals would move Dalton despite Brown saying “everybody talkin’ about go trade for him.” Bleacher Report’s Chris Simms predicted that A.J. McCarron, the Bengals’ No. 2 quarterback, would start for the Bengals at some point in 2018, but he never predicted the quarterback would exit Cincinnati this offseason.

Dalton probably won’t be the Bills’ starting quarterback in 2018, but Brown was correct about one thing. The quarterback would be treated like a king in Buffalo.

Michael Thomas has missed the feeling of the end zone.

Thomas has followed up one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history with another strong campaign, staying among the league leaders in receptions and yards throughout the season.

Touchdowns were the only thing missing. When Thomas hauled in a 10-yard score from Brees in the second quarter, the score wholesale jerseys authentic was his first since a Week 4 touchdown against the Dolphins in London.

“It meant a lot to finally get back in that end zone,” Thomas said. “It’s a fun place. I see a lot of guys getting in there, the running backs getting in and jumping in the stands. Getting in there is a blessing.”

Thomas, who finished the game with five catches for 70 yards, didn’t have any kind of celebration planned for his first score in months.

Running back Alvin Kamara wanted Thomas to pull off a Fleur-de-Leap into the stands, but the receiver settled for tossing the ball to a fan, Charlotte Schexnayder.

“I was looking at it like, ‘where do you think I should jump at,” Thomas said. “Then I said, I’m just tossing this ball to her.”wholesale jerseys review

Michael Thomas finally broke his seven-game streak without a touchdown in the New Orleans Saints’ Week 13 win over the Carolina Panthers. The Saints’ No. 1 wideout caught five passes for 70 yards and a touchdown Sunday. Thomas has at least five catches in 11 games this season, and he has reached or surpassed 65 yards receiving nine times this year. He leads the Saints in receiving with 75 catches and 875 yards, but he only has three touchdown receptions.

Thomas will have to work hard to get back to the end zone Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons will have shutdown cornerback Desmond Trufant back in the lineup for the contest after missing a game with a concussion. Thomas lit up the Falcons in his rookie year, averaging eight catches and 113.5 yards in two matchups. He also scored in each game against the Falcons last season.

Fantasy impact: Thomas would be a much bigger fantasy threat if he scored more, but he still gets a sizable amount of targets and receptions in the Saints’ offense. Thomas also has a good amount of yards receiving week-to-week. Thursday night will be a challenge for the sophomore receiver lining up against Trufant. He still has flex appeal due to his high-volume, but it will not be surprising if he fails to find the end zone this week.

The signature game in Jordan Bell’s career came this year against Kansas. He was two blocks away from a triple-double in Oregon’s Final Four-clinching upset of No. 1 seed Kansas.

Remember, Joel Embiid went to Kansas.

“I talked some smack to him,” Bell, who spent some time with Embiid Tuesday night before a pre-draft workout with the Sixers the next morning, said with a smirk on his face.

As far as the Sixers are concerned, Bell has the talent to back up his smack talk. The junior forward could be available when the Sixers make their second-round selections, of which they have four: 36th, 39th, 46th and 50th. Bell made his case at the Sixers’ training complex Wednesday.

“I’m the glue guy on the team, the person who does whatever needs to be done on the floor during that game,” he said. “I can change it up from game to game. I can go out for 20, I can have somebody have their season low, 16 rebounds, 20 rebounds, whatever it is I need to do — eight blocks.”

Although the 6-foot-9, 225-pound Bell averaged a respectable 10.9 points per game in his final season as a Duck, he is not primarily a scorer. Should the Sixers decide to spend one of their picks on him, he said he’s ready to come into Philadelphia and do “the dirty work” — rebound, defend, block shots.

The Sixers see a similar role. VP of basketball administration/Delaware 87ers GM Brandon Williams said they see “a Dennis Rodman-like player that’s got the ability to play across a few positions, mainly defensively.”

Bell showed that range in the few minutes of workouts open to the media. In three-on-three play, he covered Indiana’s Thomas Bryant, who is an inch or two taller and whose wingspan stretches a massive 7-foot-6. In one sequence, Bryant went for a right hook from the block and Bell elevated to swat it away. The refs called goaltending, but that didn’t matter. Just the distance Bell got off the ground was telling.

Those abilities, interestingly, weren’t honed entirely on the basketball court — something the Sixers dug up when they interviewed Bell.

“As we learned more about him, one of the fascinating things is that he’s a volleyball player, and if you pick up some little nuances, he blocks a lot of shots with two hands,” Williams said. “You can almost see the volleyball play, blocking at the net.”

The sport has helped Bell develop his timing when attempting to block shots.

“For a player as, call him, short, given how big you think he is, at 6-8, his spring, his sense of timing,” Williams said. “Coaches always want players who can guard pick-and-roll and guys who can switch and I think he’s going to give somebody a great asset as a versatile defensive player.”

And football, which Bell played for two years at Long Beach Polytechnic High School as a receiver and defensive end, did his development some favors too. The football program there is nationally relevant — DeSean Jackson is a Jackrabbit alumnus. With that crowd of talent, there were no days off.

“So you had to bring that edge every single day in practice,” Bell said. “And then try to just carry that over to the basketball team.”

Bell brought the work ethic from high school to college. Now it’s time to carry it over from college to the pros.

Colangelo Confirms Embiid Has Cartilage Tear In Knee wholesale sports jerseys

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid isn’t healthy enough for the basketball court, but his dance moves look just fine wholesale sports jerseys.

A leading candidate for Rookie of the Year, Embiid missed his ninth straight game Saturday due to a bruised left knee. His absence against the Miami Heat came one night after cellphone video captured the 76ers center dancing on stage at a Meek Mill concert in Philadelphia.

The video caused a mini firestorm in Philadelphia on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters at Saturday morning’s shootaround at the team’s practice facility in Camden, New Jersey, the 22-year-old rookie said his dancing was all about having fun.

“Meek invited me to the stage,” Embiid said is wholesale jerseys china legit. “I had fun. That’s what I’m about, just enjoying life.”

Philadelphia coach Brett Brown deflected questions about Embiid in Saturday’s pregame meeting with reporters, saying he had a conversation with Embiid about it and that he wanted to keep that talk private.

But 76ers president Bryan Colangelo later acknowledged that dancing on stage might not have been the best choice for Embiid to make given his injury.

“Being at the concert was not disappointing,” Colangelo said. “Probably being on stage and dancing was a little bit given the circumstances and given the potential reaction.”

Colangelo also revealed that in addition to a bone bruise on his left knee, Embiid has a minor tear in his meniscus. Colangelo said the latter injury isn’t thought to be serious nor is it believed to be causing any symptoms.

“A lot of players do play with minor tears,” Colangelo said. “Once again, the injury is thought to be mostly about the bone bruise and that’s what he’s being treated for. If he can show he is healthy and able to play, there is no reason he shouldn’t play. This is not thought to be a severe injury.”

Embiid hasn’t played since Jan. 27, when he had 32 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks in a nationally televised 123-118 home loss to James Harden and Houston. Embiid is averaging 20.2 points and 7.8 rebounds in 31 games this season. Counting Saturday, he will have missed 12 of the last 13 games.

After sitting out his first two seasons with a foot injury, Embiid injured his knee on Jan. 20 in a 93-92 home buy jerseys wholesale victory over Portland.

Embiid wasn’t selected as a reserve to the Eastern Conference’s All-Star team, but he is scheduled to compete in the Rising Stars game and the Skills Challenge during the league’s All-Star festivities. Colangelo said it is “very unlikely” that Embiid would participate in those.

Philadelphia has two games remaining after Saturday before the break, but it’s doubtful Embiid will play in either, Monday at Charlotte and Wednesday at Boston.

“It’s more than likely we’ll hold him back until the end of the All-Star break,” Colangelo said.

The 76ers entered Saturday 13-18 with Embiid in the lineup and 6-16 without him.

While Colangelo acknowledged the organization’s disappointment, Brown chose to be closer to the vest.

When pressed about it not being a good look for Embiid to dance on stage when he can’t play on the court, Brown acknowledged that was part of the discussion.

“The conversations I had with Joel after I saw the video included a lot, some of which you mentioned,” Brown said. “By and large, I’d probably prefer it was a private conversation.”

Asked if he was disappointed by Embiid’s actions, Brown said: “I’m not going to go there anymore. I’ve spoken wholesale jerseys for cheap with Joel privately and I’ll leave it at that.”

Wholesale sports jerseys: Phil Esposito remembers final NHL game

It was Christmas Eve 1980 and Phil Esposito wholesale sports jerseys, his place in hockey history set in cement after an illustrious 18-1/2-season, record-breaking NHL career, knew he was at the end of the line.

“I woke up and I told my wife, ‘I’ve had it. It’s time to retire,'” Esposito recalled. “She looked at me, said, ‘That’s nice,’ then went back to sleep.”

On Jan. 9, 1981, Esposito played the final game of a 1,282-game career that spanned three decades, from 1963-64 to 1980-81. He broke in with the Chicago Blackhawks and played 3-1/2 seasons there, was traded to the Boston Bruins in 1967 wholesale jerseys for cheap to star with Bobby Orr through November 1975, then finished with almost six seasons for the New York Rangers.

Esposito was a five-time Art Ross Trophy winner as the NHL’s leading scorer, won the Hart Trophy as the League’s most valuable player twice and was a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Bruins in 1970 and 1972.

At the end of 1980, Esposito was in his hockey twilight “and I could see the writing on the wall,” he said, Rangers general manager and coach Craig Patrick having replaced the fired Fred Shero that November and planning lean heavily on a youth brigade.

Esposito was the most prolific active player in the NHL when he retired with 717 goals, a mark exceeded only by the 801 scored by Gordie Howe (who played 485 more games). Esposito’s 873 assists gave him 1,590 career points, trailing Howe’s 1,049 and 1,850.

His retirement was known shortly before the Rangers’ Jan. 9 game at Madison Square Garden against the Buffalo Sabres. Instead of being a bit of a role player, Patrick had Esposito centering Don Maloney and Doug Sulliman, “the Rangers’ best players,” Esposito said.

The week leading up to the game had been a whirlwind of emotions, with Esposito torn for some time about retiring, so even he was surprised by how well he played that night before an adoring crowd.

“What surprised me mostly in that last game is that I hadn’t practiced for five, six days and I played as good a game as I had for a long time,” he recalled. “One of the things I’m most proud of is that I retired when I knew I should. And it wasn’t easy. No matter what, it’s never easy.”

Esposito earned the final point of his career at 12:00 of the first period, getting the primary assist (with Dave Maloney picking up the other) on a goal by Dean Talafous.

“Who cares if it was Dean Talafous or Wayne Gretzky?” Esposito said with a laugh.

He picked up a penalty at 14:35 of the third period, whistled by referee Ron Hoggarth.

“It was kind of a stupid, chintzy penalty,” Esposito recalled. “I was getting away with murder that game and I knew it. I didn’t think they’d call anything. When they did buy wholesale jerseys, I’m skating to the box and I’m saying, ‘Hogie, c’mon … you’re giving me a penalty now?’ and he says, ‘I should have given you five already.’ We both laughed.

“What I remember mostly about the game was in the last 10 seconds, I had the puck in the slot, right there, I had goalie Don Edwards beat, and Mike Ramsay dove and stopped the puck with his glove. I remember that because I’d have had a goal with my two assists that night.”

Gently told he had just a single assist, Esposito replied, “Really? Well, I don’t remember things like that. I don’t give a [hoot].”

His work as an assistant coach for Patrick didn’t last long.

“No fun,” said Esposito jersey shirts wholesale, who would move on to establish and run the Tampa Bay Lightning, work as a broadcaster and set himself up in a variety of businesses in Florida.

“I mean, when you can’t yell at the refs any more, it’s time to get away from the ice.”
